WHAT IS GOOD - formats

Cookbooks

UN & DEUX

Considerations:
What I like about it - stock, belly band and binding methods
Stock - the book is clearly hardback, and will therefore have been made using an extremely durable stock. This is ideal for a cookbook as they are used often and in messy situations. Pages within recipe books are known to rip due to excessive use, and because of the situation they are used in, therefore a good stock is needed.
Lifetime of product - this product appears to have a durable cover that will withstand the test of time. The only real problem is the chosen colour of the stock. a stark white stock is not ideal in terms of mess from cooking, which will eventually ruin the aesthetics of the book. Over time, the belly band may also be misplaced, meaning you would no longer be able to identify the book.
How they go together - the book appears to be case bound, which may prove annoying for a cookbook as it may flick from page to page on it's own accord.
How would you produce it - in order to produce a product like this, book binding methods would have to be taken into consideration, therefore a workshop would be needed.

Anarchist

Considerations:
What I like about it - interesting use of both stock and colour to produce a cookbook that isn't generic.
Stock - this product also appears to have quite a durable cover that is appealing from the outside and allows you to have a glimpse of the inside colour scheme and aesthetics. Different stocks have been used within this publication to create interaction with the user.
Lifetime of product - this product looks like a durable one due to it's hardback cover. It also has an advantage in terms of colour. Although you wouldn't necessarily see a black cookbook, the colour is ideal for the situation it would be placed in with messy foods.
How they go together - this publication appears to be thermal bound using fabric and glue.
How would you produce it - this type of bind is something I have not experienced before and it would take some experimenting in order to reproduce it. Glue binding is quite tricky and can be dangerous.

Gront Rott Gult

Considerations:
What I like about it - product range and use of different formats and scales.
Stock - a number of different stocks have been used in order to create a range of products that work as a set. Stock has also been used in order to create different formats in terms of paper size.
Lifetime of product - uncertain as to lifetime of product, however, consideration of ease of use should be taken into account. If bulldog clips have been used to hold the pages down for the photograph, then it may be said that the pages are unable to keep themselves open very well. A cookbook needs to be able to sit flat in order for it to be most efficient when cooking. The lifetime of the product could therefore be short in terms of how easy it is to use it.

Rooted in Love

Considerations:
What I like about it - use of different paper sizes and the large range of products available. Methods used to keep everything together, appears all very natural and reflects the content. Context of images are extremely relevant and add an extra dimension to the products.
Stock - stock is very reflective of the organic content in terms of colour and the very natural aesthetics. A variety of stocks have been included in order to build up a range of products that are available.
Lifetime of product - all products look like something that the user would want to keep. Appears to be put together with love and care, which shows time and effort. It is highly unlikely that someone would simply throw any of the products away as time has been spent on producing them.
How they go together - each individual product has been packaged together using brown string and given a gift tag. This is a very thoughtful way of bringing together an end product which reflects it's aims.
How would you produce it - through the use of illustration and very hands-on methods.

Branding and identity

Piece of Cake

Considerations:
What I like about it - the range of products available, from print-based to digital. The overall finish of the images, including relevant objects and complimenting colours.
Stock - stock used is simple and to the point, which is reflective of the branding. Looks quite rich in terms of the cream shade which represents baking and ingredients used within certain methods.
How would you produce it - screen print.

Beta 5

Considerations:
What I like about it - the simplicity of the branding and also of the products the branding has been applied too. Nothing too overly cluttered and not following the usual 'girly' illustrative style of classic baked/food products.
Stock - very classic, natural stocks, following a neutral colour scheme. Keeping things very modern and simplistic.

Baking products

Alessi cookie cutters

Considerations:
What I like about it - not your conventional way of packaging baking products. Offers a keepsake as well as being a practical storage system for cookie cutters.
Stock - hard-wearing and durable, thick, brown stock that will allow the net to keep it's shape and hold the products.
