DESIGN CONTEXT 2 - questions to ask myself

It is worth - at this stage - formulating your initial interests in to a few short questions, and identifying specific research activities, sources and material that will help you find the answers.

Initial interests:

- social impact
- Riot Grrrl
- the extent of a 'revolution'
- the extent of impact on individuals and society

Questions to ask myself:

1. What extent did Riot Grrrl have a revolutionary impact on society?
2. Can Riot Grrrl still be seen within society today?
3. Has there been a new genre or 'scene' of girl that has stemmed from this movement?
4. How did the methods of DIY print and production impact the movement?
5. What kind of aesthetics did the original Riot Grrrls go for?
6. How do you produce a zine?
7. What kind of bands/individuals were involved in this movement?

Specific research activities, sources and material

- visual history of Riot Grrrl
research into original Riot Grrrl zines, start with zinewiki
- go through essay again, which will allow me to find a lot of the answers to the type of impact Riot Grrrl had on society and why
- look at academic writing on Riot Grrrl in order to gain a better understanding of the movement
- expand on current knowledge of individuals associated with Riot Grrrl e.g. Tavi Gevinson and Lena Dunham - the "new girl"
- split research up into three different categories to make it more manageable
